Why Are Children Being Vaccinated Against H1N1 Without their Parents Consent?
Conspiracy theorists are jumping all over the news about “mix ups” involving the H1N1 vaccines. According to online reports, school children across the country have been vaccinated against the swine flu virus without their parents consent. This is not as innocuous as it sounds.
Every school nurse knows she can’t administer as much as a single Motrin to children without parental consent. So how could this “mistake” happen?
Isn’t it interesting that in July, Obama’s US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, signed a decree granting vaccine makers total immunity from any lawsuits that may arise from “Swine Flu” vaccine “mix ups” such as these incidents?
And why does the CDC suggest only children be vaccinated when adults as well as children are coming down with the flu?

Faced with a deep recession, Cuba tries Socialism lite
Facing a severe and protracted economic downturn, Cuba's government is scaling back socialism in an attempt to save it.
Cuba's workplace cafeterias are closing, President Raúl Castro keeps saying the well-off shouldn't get the same subsidies as the poor, and now there are rumblings that one of the stalwart vestiges of the revolution -- the ration booklet -- has outlived its usefulness.
As the Cuban government struggles through a deep recession, its leaders have begun picking away at socialism in order to save it. But experts say the latest buzz by the Cuban government is simply another desperate fix to stem the slide of a failed economy that buckled long ago.
Even one of Havana's leading economists recently said Cuba's economy needed to be turned upside down -- ``feet up.'' So taxi drivers got private licenses, farmers now have their own plots of land and government workers have to pack their own lunches.
``I think what they are trying to do is prepare the people for a hard landing,'' said Cuba expert Jonathan Benjamin-Alvarado of the University of Nebraska. ``The government is really saying in so many words: We've got limited resources and can only do so much. I think they are stuck.''
Since he took office early last year, Raúl Castro has been saying that the country's severely battered economy needs fixing. In a widely quoted August speech, Castro said Cuba was spending more than it made.
``Nobody, no individual nor country, can indefinitely spend more than she or he earns. Two plus two always adds up to four, never five,'' he said. ``Within the conditions of our imperfect socialism, due to our own shortcomings, two plus two often adds up to three.''
CASTRO'S CHANGES
In the 18 months since he took office, Castro restructured the nation's agricultural system to give idle land to farmers, hoping they would revive a deeply troubled state-run agricultural industry plagued by inefficiency. He also allowed taxi drivers to have private licenses; many were working illegally anyway.
Castro suggested it was time to rethink fundamentals such as deep subsidies for everyone. He started by saving $350 million by closing workplace cafeterias at four government ministries. Workers got a slight boost in pay as a result.
On Friday, the Cuban state newspaper Granma published a signed editorial from its top editor criticizing the so-called ``supply card,'' which provides Cubans with about a week and a half of deeply subsided groceries. In an article titled ``He's paternalistic, you're paternalistic, I'm paternalistic,'' Granma editor Lázaro Barredo Medina blasted the Cuban ``gimme'' mentality.
``You don't go to the store to buy, you go so they can give you what's yours,'' he wrote.
Barredo, a member of the Cuban National Assembly, did not say when changes to the system could take place. But in a country where the Communist Party and central government control the media, it was as if Castro had written the newspaper column himself.
IT'S `ABOUT POWER'
``Of all the subjects and problems that can reach Granma, they chose this one, so undoubtedly they are planning to eliminate what I call the (un)supply card,'' Central Cuban dissident Guillermo Fariñas said in a telephone interview. ``They are doing things like that -- and this pilot program to close the workplace cafeteria at some government ministries -- because they are trying not to spend money on food. It goes against socialism, but it goes in favor of staying in power, which in the end is what interests the Castro dynasty.
``This is about power.''
Earlier this year, the Cuban government announced that 2009 economic growth projections had dropped from 2.5 percent to 1.7 percent. Last year, when the rest of the world reeled from the global financial meltdown, Cuba was hit with three hurricanes that cost $10 billion.
Nickel prices tanked, and even tobacco production shrank drastically as fewer smokers around the world lit up.
Suddenly the rush was on to find ways to trim waste from Cuba's inefficient economic model.
``Cuba goes through cycles of strict ideological code, but that code does not function. That code leads to corruption, leads to the black market and leads to economic collapse,'' said Baruch College professor Ted Henken. ``So they shift back and forth, and they've been doing that for 45 or 50 years.''
For nearly 20 years, Cuba has more often shifted toward market reforms but always stressed that the political system was not to be debated, he said.
``There's an expression in Cuba: You can play with the chain, but not the monkey,'' Henken said. ``That's what they are doing: pulling at the chain, but the monkey is still attached.''

REST IN PEACE - MY COUSIN, JOHN MALONE!

A 24-year-old U.S. Marine killed in action in Afghanistan on Thursday was a Gorton High School graduate and former Mahopac resident who "would light up the room," family and friends said.

Lance Cpl. John J. Malone, who grew up in Mahopac before moving to Yonkers to attend high school, died of gunshot wounds while on patrol in Afghanistan, according to family and friends who said they were notified late Thursday. The Pentagon said he died in Farah province, Afghanistan.
Malone, a young man who loved music, often wore a smile on his face and was committed to his family and serving his country, had a way about him that earned many friends.
"John is a great guy," said Zahara Majeed, 21, of Yonkers, a friend who knew Malone when he and his sister attended Gorton. "You would never have a bad day because he would always make you smile."
Malone, who after graduation worked at the Pathmark store on Central Avenue and later enlisted, was proud of his military service and the opportunities that came with being in the Marines, friends said.
"He loved it," Majeed said. "It changed him. He got to see the world, something that he was never going to do if he never got into the military."
But most of all, Malone, who last year served in Iraq, wanted to help protect his country and family, friends said.
"He had family in the Marines, so what he said was, ‘Basically, they're trying to kill my family,' and he wanted to go and protect people he loved and what not - the country and everything," said Josh Blumenstetter, 24, a friend who knew Malone when he lived in Mahopac.
Malone had come to Mahopac to live with his grandmother, and, despite being new to the area, he fit in easily, said Charles Blumenstetter, Josh's father.
"He was one of the most popular guys in town. Everybody loved him," Charles Blumenstetter said. "He was just a polite young man and very friendly, and all I can say is I was talking to one of the kids this morning and they're all very upset. They said John would just light up the room."

On Tuesday, Josh Blumenstetter got an e-mail from Malone saying he had had a lot of close calls while serving in Afghanistan and was anxious to come home. He was due to come home in several weeks.
"When he was in Iraq, it seemed like he felt a lot more safe and everything seemed better," he said.
Then, Blumenstetter got a text message from Malone's brother Darryl at 5:15 p.m. Thursday saying, "John's gone."
Malone was a member of the 2nd Battalion , 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, based at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay.
Marco Kilcawley, 22, of Columbia, S.C., served in the same company as Malone in Afghanistan but was sent back to Hawaii a couple of months ago for medical reasons.
"We went to Iraq together. We went to Afghanistan together," Kilcawley said. "He was an all-around good Marine. He made everyone happy, even when we were around the field cold and miserable."
During his free time, Malone would listen to songs that he had written and produced, and enjoyed hanging out with his friends, Kilcawley said. Like his friends in the company, he was torn over whether to quit the military or sign up for another tour, Kilcawley said. This last tour in Afghan[0xad]istan was more difficult than their other assignments, Kilcawley said, adding that he did not know the circumstances surrounding Malone's death.
"Afghanistan is more dangerous," he said. "The Taliban over there are a little more braver in trying to attack us."

PRESIDENT OBAMA ON LETTERMAN..
On Monday, President Barack Obama sat down with David Letterman on the Late Show to discuss topics including race, the economy and, of course, health care reform.
When asked whether the reaction to his health care plan is driven by racism, the President replied, “First of all, I think it’s important to realize that I was actually black before the election.”
President Obama said he expects unemployment will be a “big problem” for at least another year, but he said the economy will rebound even stronger.
This was the President’s sixth appearance on Letterman’s show, but the first time for a sitting president.

John Stossel Exposes The Truth Behind ObamaCare’s Myths
John Stossel, co-anchor of ABC’s 20/20 compares ObamaCare to Canada’s free health care system where patients wait months to be seen for treatment.
He points out that when American actress Natasha Richardson fell and hit her head on a ski slope outside Montreal earlier this year, the closest hospital with the scanning equipment needed to diagnose her brain injury was hundreds of miles away.
Sadly, there weren’t any helicopters to fly her to a hospital because under Canada’s free health system, there isn’t enough money to buy these lifesaving, big ticket items.
So, like the Canadians who don’t get access to timely medical attention - she died.
The same will happen to Americans if ObamaCare passes — unless you’re wealthy enough to be seen by a doctor right away.
Stossel exposes the truth behind Barack Obama’s claims that his health care system will save money over the next 10 years. That is impossible. There simply aren’t enough doctors, hospitals or funding to cover all 300 million Americans AND the 19 million illegal aliens already in this country that Obama wants to give amnesty to.

Jimmy Choo For HnM...

Ladies, it’s time to get excited! Here are the first pictures of Jimmy Choo’s shoe line for H&M which is due to come out November 14, 2009. I spy a lot of interpretations of high-class Jimmy Choos such as “Jedd”, “Bonnie”, “Blaze” & “Seattle” for example. The shoes will be priced between 90 to 190USD. My personal favorite are the studded gladiator stilettos – probably the first pair I’m definitely going to buy. What do you think of the collection so far? Good, bad, worth the price or not so much???
The Painful Death of a Yemen Child Bride Yemeni Girl, 12, Dies in Childbirth After 3 Days of Labor
Quote:
Abolishing child marriage, he says, "is an idea whose time has come."
Actually, the time for this idea came several centuries ago, but some places seem to have missed it. Muhammad's wife Aisha was apparently about 9 years old when the marriage was consummated.
After days of struggling through labor a 12-year-old "child bride" has died in Yemen, her baby a stillborn.
Fawziyah Abdullah Youssef was married last year at the age of 11 to a 24-year-old. In a custom that is common in Yemen, her parents pulled her from school so that she could be given to her betrothed.
"Families think child marriage is a good thing&that it comes directly from Islam. They don't understand the dangers," Ahmad Al-Qureishi of Seyaj, a Yemeni children's rights group, tells ABC News.
The dangers are apparent in statistic gathered by the United Nations. Yemen has a high maternal death rate of 430 women per 100,000 births more than 20 times that of its neighbor, Saudi Arabia -- and is in the top 50 countries ranked for high infant mortality.
Most of the maternal deaths are for early pregnancy, according to UNICEF.
"It's a deeply embedded social habit. For every one child marriage we can stop there are five more," said Naseem Rehman, a UNICEF spokesman in Yemen's capital of Sana'a.
Rehman says child brides in Yemen face a "triple disadvantage," having to cope with a lost childhood, a pregnancy their bodies aren't ready to handle, and often forced to give birth at home, far from any health facility.
An estimated 50 percent of women in Yemen are married before age 18, some as young as eight. In recent years Yemen's civil society and women's rights activists have pushed back against the practice, which is prevalent in what has long been the poorest country in the Arabian Peninsula.
Calls For New Law
In February Yemen's parliament passed a child marriages law setting a minimum age of 17, but it has yet to be enacted. The bill has long been challenged by conservative lawmakers who say it would contradict the laws of Islam.
The law also challenges rural and tribal customs. Marriages are often arranged by parents to serve the family's interests; a child marriage can bring a dowry payment, and relieves a household from having to feed one more child.
Earlier this year Seyaj, the children's rights group, documented the case of Rahmanah Ali Al Shayef, 10, whose father traded her hand in marriage in exchange for a bride for his son. When a local official refused to issue the marriage contract because of the bride's young age, Al Shayef's father took her to another district, where the marriage officer was more compliant.
The issue of child marriage in Yemen rose to prominence in 2007 after an 8-year-old bride, Nojoud Ali, was granted a divorce from her abusive husband.
At the time her lawyer, Shatha Nasser, told ABC News that the young girl left her home and walked to the local court, asking staff there for help. They put her in touch with Nasser, who handles cases of abuse against women and children, and the two successfully fought for an annulment.
Together they were honored by Glamour Magazine's Woman of the Year Award in 2008; Nojoud Ali has since been banned from traveling outside of Yemen.
Since then human rights activists have stepped up their efforts, led by Yemeni women and civil society groups.
"We have young girls speaking out against the practice, which injures the child, the family, and the community," said Rehman of UNICEF.

R.I.P. Patrick Swayze
LOS ANGELES — Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers’ hearts with “Dirty Dancing” and then broke them with “Ghost,” died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.
“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.
Fans of the actor were saddened to learn in March 2008 that Swayze was suffering from a particularly deadly form of cancer.
He had kept working despite the diagnosis, putting together a memoir with his wife and shooting “The Beast,” an A&E drama series for which he had already made the pilot. It drew a respectable 1.3 million viewers when the 13 episodes ran on the cable television station in 2009, but A&E said it had reluctantly decided not to renew it for a second season.
Swayze said he opted not to use painkilling drugs while making “The Beast” because they would have taken the edge off his performance. He acknowledged that time might be running out given the grim nature of the disease.
When he first went public with the illness, some reports gave him only weeks to live, but his doctor said his situation was “considerably more optimistic” than that.
“I’d say five years is pretty wishful thinking,” Swayze told ABC’s Barbara Walters in early 2009. “Two years seems likely if you’re going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I’d better get a fire under it.”
A three-time Golden Globe nominee, Swayze became a star with his performance as the misunderstood bad-boy Johnny Castle in “Dirty Dancing.” As the son of a choreographer who began his career in musical theatre, he seemed a natural to play the role.
A coming-of-age romance starring Jennifer Grey as an idealistic young woman on vacation with her family and Swayze as the Catskills resort’s sexy (and much older) dance instructor, the film made great use of both his grace on his feet and his muscular physique.
It became an international phenomenon in the summer of 1987, spawning albums, an Oscar-winning hit song in “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life,” stage productions and a sequel, 2004’s “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” in which he made a cameo.
Swayze performed and co-wrote a song on the soundtrack, the ballad “She’s Like the Wind,” inspired by his wife, Lisa Niemi. The film also gave him the chance to utter the now-classic line, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
And it allowed him to poke fun at himself on a “Saturday Night Live” episode, in which he played a would-be Chippendales exotic dancer alongside the corpulent — and frighteningly shirtless — Chris Farley.
A major crowdpleaser, “Dirty Dancing” drew only mixed reviews from critics, though Vincent Canby wrote in The New York Times, “Given the limitations of his role, that of a poor but handsome sex-object abused by the rich women at Kellerman’s Mountain House, Mr. Swayze is also good. ... He’s at his best — as is the movie — when he’s dancing.”
Swayze followed that up with the 1989 action film “Road House,” in which he played a bouncer at a rowdy bar. But it was his performance in 1990’s “Ghost” that showed his vulnerable, sensitive side. He starred as a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee (Demi Moore) — with great frustration and longing — through a psychic played by Whoopi Goldberg.
Swayze said at the time that he fought for the role of Sam Wheat (director Jerry Zucker wanted Kevin Kline) but once he went in for an audition and read six scenes, he got it.
Why did he want the part so badly? “It made me cry four or five times,” he said of Bruce Joel Rubin’s Oscar-winning script in an AP interview.
“Ghost” provided yet another indelible musical moment: Swayze and Moore sensually moulding pottery together to the strains of the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody.” It also earned a best-picture nomination and a supporting-actress Oscar for Goldberg, who said she wouldn’t have won if it weren’t for Swayze.
“When I won my Academy Award, the only person I really thanked was Patrick,” Goldberg said in March 2008 on the ABC daytime talk show “The View.”
Swayze himself earned three Golden Globe nominations, for “Dirty Dancing,” “Ghost“ and 1995’s “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar,“ which further allowed him to toy with his masculine image. The role called for him to play a drag queen on a cross-country road trip alongside Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo.”
His heartthrob status almost kept him from being considered for the role of Vida Boheme.
“I couldn’t get seen on it because everyone viewed me as terminally heterosexually masculine-macho,” he told the AP then. But he transformed himself so completely that when his screen test was sent to Steven Spielberg, whose Amblin pictures produced “To Wong Foo,” Spielberg didn’t recognize him.
Among his earlier films, Swayze was part of the star-studded lineup of up-and-comers in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s novel “The Outsiders,” alongside Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, Emilio Estevez and Diane Lane. Swayze played Darrel “Dary” Curtis, the oldest of three wayward brothers — and essentially the father figure — in a poor family in small-town Oklahoma.
Other ‘80s films included “Red Dawn,” “Grandview U.S.A.“ (for which he also provided choreography) and “Youngblood,“ once more with Lowe, as Canadian hockey teammates.”
In the ‘90s, he made such eclectic films as “Point Break“ (1991), in which he played the leader of a band of bank-robbing surfers, and the family Western “Tall Tale” (1995), in which he starred as Pecos Bill. He appeared on the cover of People magazine as its “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1991, but his career tapered off toward the end of the 1990s, when he also had stay in rehab for alcohol abuse. In 2001, he appeared in the cult favourite “Donnie Darko,” and in 2003 he returned to the New York stage with “Chicago“; 2006 found him in the musical “Guys and Dolls” in London.
Swayze was born in 1952 in Houston, the son of Jesse Swayze and choreographer Patsy Swayze, whose films include “Urban Cowboy.”
He played football but also was drawn to dance and theatre, performing with the Feld, Joffrey and Harkness Ballets and appearing on Broadway as Danny Zuko in “Grease.” But he turned to acting in 1978 after a series of injuries.
Within a couple years of moving to Los Angeles, he made his debut in the roller-disco movie “Skatetown, U.S.A.” The eclectic cast included Scott Baio, Flip Wilson, Maureen McCormack and Billy Barty.
Swayze had a couple of movies in the works when his diagnosis was announced, including the drama “Powder Blue,” starring Jessica Biel, Forest Whitaker and his younger brother, Don, which was scheduled for release this year.
Off-screen, he was an avid conservationist who was moved by his time in Africa to shine a light on “man’s greed and absolute unwillingness to operate according to Mother Nature’s laws,” he told the AP in 2004.
Swayze was married since 1975 to Niemi, a fellow dancer who took lessons with his mother; they met when he was 19 and she was 15. A licensed pilot, Niemi would fly her husband from Los Angeles to Northern California for treatment at Stanford University Medical Center, People magazine reported in a cover story.

Beauty Is In The EYE Of The Beholder....

Ladies, do you want to learn how to make your eyes your best feature? Here are a few tips to help you out:
Wide-set Eyes
Bring wide-set eyes closer together with dark shadow:
1) Sweep taupe shadow across the lids, keeping it darker at the inner corner and fading it out lightly as you move to the outer corner.
2) Line the inner half of the upper and lower lash lines with a chocolate brown pencil.
Close-set Eyes
Widen your eyes with light shadow:
1) Dab the lids and inside corner of the eye with white, sand or ivory shadow.
2) Starting at the iris, rim just the outer half of the upper and lower lash lines with a charcoal eye pencil.
Small Eyes
Make them look bigger with white eye liner:
1) Line the inner rim of the lower lashes with a white eye pencil.
2) Sweep a light pink or silver shadow on the inner corners of the eye.
Protruding Eyes
1) Sweep dark brown powder across lid, using a heavy hand on the outer corner of eye.
2) Smudge bottom portion of eye with same color.
Hooded Eyes
1) Sweep a white shadow on lids and brow bone.
2) Pull eyebrow up from arch to apply a taupe shadow in the crease; when you let go of the brow, the crease falls in a higher place and acts like a mini eyelid lift.

Juanes Responds to Cuba Concert Critics....

Juanes not too long ago announced his plans to do a concert in Cuba. This announcement was met with all kinds of comments and raised eyebrows. The Colombian rocker has chosen to respond to naysayers.
As for those who are accusing him of using the concert to create publicity himself, he shot back:
“¿Publicidad de qué? Yo sabía que esto iba a pasar porque había hablado con algunos amigos a los que les había pasado lo mismo y aunque se ha vuelto una pesadilla, creemos que tiene un sentido.”
And he has some words too to all those who say that he’s being used by the Cuban government and is getting paid major billetes:
“El gobierno de Cuba no está pagando ni un peso, esta idea salió de nosotros y nosotros sacamos el dinero de nuestro propio bolsillo; llamamos a decir que queríamos hacer el concierto y lo vamos a hacer.”
Ooh, I guess Juanes told you all. And the show will go on!

VIBE IS NOT SO DUNZO AFTERALL!!!

Just when we thought there was no hope for urban publications, a company has been in the works of buying Vibe out of debt.
When CapitolSource, a major debt holder, announced the shutdown of Vibe in June, it wasn’t even a mere thought that the company would recover. But a former publisher of the magazine Leonard Burnett Jr. and the owners of Uptown Magazine have reached a deal with CapitolSource to buy out the Vibe Brand:
Wicks Group paid about $35 million, with financing from CapitalSource, to buy Vibe in 2006. And since the magazine’s shutdown, executives close to the matter said, CapitalSource has been trying to recoup some of the unrecovered debt by accepting offers from potential buyers.
It seems that those efforts have finally paid off because a deal has been reached between Uptown and its equity banker along with CapitolSource to buy back Vibe. We’re so happy Vibe is back on the scene because leaving the urban representation up to King and Black Men’s mag was not an option.

LOVE OR HATE IT.... KIM KARDASHIAN DEBUTS NEW LOOK AS A BLONDE @ THE 2009 TEEN CHOICE AWARDS...

Reality TV vixen Kim Kardashian showed off her new lighter locks at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, and we like it!
This isn’t the first time Kim has gone from brunette to blonde. In April, Kim showed off a similar hairstyle, but later admitted that it was a wig in her blog.
On her official website Sunday, Kim said: “This time it’s for real, guys! I went blonde!!! I had been considering it ever since I wore that blonde wig, and I just decided to go for it!! What do you think? I am really loving it! I’m debuting my new look at the Teen Choice Awards tonight! Can’t wait to hit the red carpet as a blonde!”
Perhaps she is looking to revamp her look and start a new as she just recently split with boyfriend Reggie Bush (running back for the New Orleans Saints).

The Tush and The Bush Call It Quits....

After two years of dating, it looks like it splits-ville for footballer Reggie Bush and socialite/TV personality Kim Kardashian a.k.a The Tush. Allegedly, infidelity is the reason for the break up, however, there are no official reports confirming this assumption. Sources say the duo have been over for months but booked many appearances as a couple so they had to "play nice". Apparently, Kim did a story with People just two days before she announced her split from Reggie Bush, and at that time it sounded like the two were going strong. They were house hunting together! But maybe it was too much, too soon? Kim stated: "He hated the [house] that I loved; there is one that he loved and I know my mom is going to love. So I don't know. I just feel like I have lived in a condo and it's just time."
Perhaps most telling, she followed with a declaration: "I've always wanted to buy a big house myself and ... It is time for me to move. I wish my sisters could move in with me."
Asked if she planned to move in with Bush, she told PEOPLE, "I don't think I would ever live with someone unless I'm engaged. I'm really firm on that. I have done it before. I would tell all my friends, the best thing is to keep your independence. It feels really good to be able to buy a place by myself."
Hmmm... make of it what you will. Either way, it's too bad, but it's all part of the dating life.

VIBE IS DUNZO... THE LATEST VICTIM OF THE RECESSION!

Before I jet set to SOBE, I had to disclose another media shutdown... Vibe magazine, the urban-music magazine founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones, is the latest victim of the media recession. An assistant in the office of editor in chief Danyel Smith confirmed that the title is ceasing publication. No further information was immediately available. A call to Vibe Media CEO Steve Aaron went to voicemail.”
VIBE’s P.R. spokeswoman, Tracy Nguyen, has said that Vibe's staff was formally notified in a meeting at 2 p.m. yesterday and at this time it is unknown as to how many people would be laid off as a result of the publications closure.
Enjoy your 4th of July extended holiday weekend; I know I sure will!!! :)

R.I.P. MICHAEL JACKSON
R.I.P. our beloved King of Pop...MICHAEL JACKSON

Here are a few photos from Jackson's very last rehearsal session:

Taken from Wikipedia...
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he debuted on the professional music scene at the age of 11 as a member of The Jackson 5 in 1969, and began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group. Self-proclaimed as the "King of Pop"[2] in subsequent years, his 1982 Thriller is the world's best-selling record of all time[3] and four other solo studio albums are also among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).
In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African-American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and Thriller—widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form—helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists.
Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundation, charity singles and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his changing appearance and behavior, generated significant controversy, damaging his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s and conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and fathered three children, all of which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.
One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and the sale of 750 million records worldwide.[4] Jackson's highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him a part of popular culture for almost four decades.
I love his music... personally, this will effect my mentally handicapped brother as he is one of Michael's #1 fans...

Iran's Fight for Freedom
We sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in a democracy and I think we often take our freedoms for granted. Unfortunately, not all countries run like ours, and not all people have the freedom to say what they think, wear what they want, choose their religion. I don't tend to get into politics that much and I'm a total workaholic, so I'm always busy, but I try to keep up on the news (Twitter helps!) and I even received an e-mail from an Iranian-American fan who wanted to spread awareness of what's going on in Iran. As an Armenian-American, I definitely feel this is something that should be addressed.
If you've seen any of the shocking videos online of the police violence against the protesters (I've seen pics but I can't bring myself to watch the videos) you've seen how the Iranian people are protesting for what they believe in, fighting for their freedoms and being brutally punished and attacked for it by police. This kind of violence against innocent civilians is sickening. President Obama said he was appalled by what was going on and honestly, how can you not be?! Shima, my fan who e-mailed me, said that the Iranian government is bringing in officers from outside of Iran to silence the protesters because Iran's own guards are refusing to hurt their own people. I admire these Iranian guards for standing up for themselves, and I admire the Iranian people for fighting for their freedoms.
Some people think we shouldn't meddle with other country's politics, but I don't think it's about enforcing our own beliefs on them, it's about helping people fight for what they want for their own country. In our country protests and demonstrations happen everyday, peacefully. We are ssooo lucky to have the right to speak up for ourselves and for what we believe in. I just hope the people or Iran will some day soon have the right to do the same.

Do you have Latina power?

Well, do you? You might want to grab a copy of Latina Power!: Using 7 Strengths You Already Have to Create the Success You Deserve by Dr. Ana Nogales and see how many of the seven traits of a Latina are running through your veins. Do any of these fit you?
Espíritu Creativo (Creative Spirit)
The Aguantadora’s (Survivor’s) Passionate Determination
The Comadre’s (Girlfriend’s) Networking Ability
The Diplomática’s (Diplomat’s) Discretion
The Atrevida’s (Risktaker’s) Courage
The Malabarista’s (Multitasker’s) Balance
La Reina’s (A Diva’s) Confidence
If not, you can take a few pointers from Dr. Nogales as well as a host of other powerful and high-standing Latinas who know how to work it. Chicas like Isabelle Allende, the Chilean novelist, TV journalist and Latina Oprah Cristina Saralegui, Congresswomen Loretta and Linda Sánchez, Latina magazine founder Christy Haubegger, and of course show business vet Jaci Velásquez.
These women are all exemplary, and what’s more, their life experiences can help guide you towards your own path to great success and slamming Latina power.

Mellisos de La Lopez y Marc Anthony

Divorce instead of diamonds this Valentine's Day? February 14 was rumored to be the day Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez planned to call it quits. Rumors were rampant in December that the couple would be announcing the end of their 4 1/2 year marriage.
Instead, Marc, J.Lo and their mellisos, Max and Emme, squashed divorce chismes with an appearance at El Concierto del Amor at Madison Square Garden.
Marc’s show at Madison Square Garden came and went, and the only shocking thing that went down was reportedly that Jenny and the babies were cheering from the audience like no other.
The pair introduced their mellos on stage, to a packed house in Valentine's Day couture no less!
So, who do you think these cuties look like -- Marc or Jenny? Either way, son tan preciosos los mellisos!!!

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony at 2009 Golden Globes

Divorce hmmm??? Are they trying to save face or is it a soon to be reality for these two who appear to be more together than apart as they showed up for this year's Golden Globe Awards where JLO (sans here wedding ring) was a presenter. If Puerto Rico's royal couple truly are parting ways in a month, why would they have appeard together?
Either way, Jenn looks glam and svelte in her Marchesa gown...

Hollyweird' s Cheating Husbands...

In an attempt to quell those divorce rumors and maybe make it more shocking when they announce their split via duet after Valentine’s day, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez have been on vacation in Puerto Rico since after Christmas. Sources say that they’re even thinking about purchasing property at Trump’s International Golf Club Puerto Rico and that they had a “cozy dinner together at Marmalade restaurant in Old San Juan.” Their reps say they’re “great.” Maybe too great.
PEOPLE says “they’ve been having problems” which is normal when two people are raising 10-month-old twins together. “The marriage is experiencing frustrations because of the added stress of the twins,” says another source familiar with the situation, “but they will work things out. They love each other, and that will dictate what happens. I don’t think divorce is in the picture.”
Can two people possibly be any more annoying? According to Lopez and Anthony, yes, in fact, they can. Expect a lot of stories before Valentine’s day that paints a happy picture of the couple. A few magazines might even draw little cartoon hearts and blue jays circling around their heads. Then, bam. Jennifer and Marc split up by singing to each other. Wow. We never saw that coming. You set us up pretty good there!

They tried to make it work for the sake of their 6-year-old son, James Wilkie, but Sarah Jessica Parker has finally had enough of Matthew Broderick cheating with 25-year-old redheads passed out on their beds. This little horsey is moving out. According to Star Magazine, the Sex and the City star has been looking for her own house in NYC and once that’s done, she’ll ask for a divorce. A friend tells the magazine: “The time has come when she realizes it just isn’t worth it. Sarah Jessica is determined to get her own place and bring down the curtain on her marriage.” Another source adds: “They spent the holidays with him [James], pretending to be happy. SJP is a great actress when she has to be!”
Even though Star doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to rumors, this is something I can believe.
